Blackjack Switch is a blackjack game, found mainly in online casinos, which allows the player to trade cards between two hands. In a regular game of blackjack this is out-and-out cheating, but not in Blackjack Switch.
When a player wants to perform the Switch, he must make two identical bets and can then switch the second card dealt to each hand. Fun for the player but, of course, the house benefits, as well - in Blackjack Switch the dealer can reach a total hand of 22 without busting. In other words, a 22 for the dealer results in a push and blackjacks pay only even money. How to Play Blackjack SwitchAn example of Blackjack Switch play would be as follows: a player receives a 5 and a King in one hand and a 10 and a 6 in his other hand. He can switch the King with the 6 and end up having a 5-6 hand (which totals 11) and a 10-King hand (totaling 20), which is a far better position to be in than the original totals of 15 and 16.This Blackjack switcharoo can shift the odds to the player's favor (and certainly does in the case of our example). But, as mentioned before, the casinos aren't suckers and the Blackjack Switch rules dictate that the dealer can reach a total hand of 22 without busting. If the dealer ends up with 22 then all bets are pushed, unless the player has a blackjack, which wins. But if the player hits 22, he busts. Aside from the big switch option, Blackjack Switch plays out pretty much like a regular game of blackjack. The game is played with 6 decks, which are shuffled after each round. There are some other slight rule changes as compared to regular blackjack. In Blackjack Switch, blackjack (21) only pays 1:1 rather than the 3:2 in regular blackjack. Again, this is because the house knows that it's a lot easier to make 21 when you are allowed to switch cards around. Similar to traditional blackjack, the dealer must always hit on a soft 17, and doubling down and splitting is allowed. Players may double after a split and they can only split once. Blackjack Switch Basic StrategyIf you play blackjack strictly according to the blackjack basic strategy, you should be aware that the Blackjack Switch basic strategy is a bit different from regular basic strategy because of the rule that says that the dealer pushes on 22. Like with regular blackjack basic strategy, there are charts for Blackjack Switch that tell you exactly how you should play every hand, charts that are based on all the possible card combinations that you and the dealer could be dealt.But a good Blackjack Switch chart will also tell you when it is advantageous to switch and when it is not. Most of the time it will be obvious, but at certain times it will be very difficult to guess what to do without calculating and comparing your options, which could take a while and can be frustrating. Again, you should be able to find a chart online to help you with these possibilities and playing with this type of strategy chart will give even an experienced Blackjack Switch player a big advantage.
